Keynote Talk : Applied Blockchain Research: Scaling, Securing Healthcare and Identity, and Preparing for Post-Quantum Security Systemsy
By Pr Abdelhakim Hafid, DIRO, University of Montreal, Canada

Abstract: This talk presents a research-driven perspective on the evolving technical landscape of blockchain systems. We begin by examining the scalability challenges of blockchain and briefly review existing solutions, including a discussion of our work on the security of sharding-based architectures. We then turn to real-world applications, sharing our experience using blockchain to support healthcare and decentralized identity through DIDs. The talk also covers how blockchain can be integrated into federated learning systems to enhance auditability and decentralized trust. We conclude with a look at one major challenge shaping the future of blockchain research: designing blockchain systems that are secure against quantum-era threats.

Bio: Prof Hafid is a Full Professor at the University of Montreal. He is the founding director of Network Research Lab and Montreal Blockchain Lab. Prof. Hafid published over 260 journal and conference papers; he also holds three US patents. Prior to joining U. of Montreal, he spent several years, as senior research scientist, at Bell Communications Research (Bellcore), NJ, US working in the context of major research projects on the management of next generation networks. Invited Talk : Digital Agents Program: innovation, academic immersion and professional leadership to transform the public sector
By
Mrs Monica Simoes Bandeira Cunha, Analista de Gestão em Tecnologia da Informação ( AGTIC), Secretaria de Administração de Pernambuco/Secretaria Executiva de Transformação Digital ( SETD)

Abstract: This explores the transformative potential of digital agents in enhancing public sector efficiency and responsiveness. It highlights how the program fosters innovation by integrating cutting-edge technology with academic insights, enabling participants to develop practical solutions to real-world challenges. Emphasizing the importance of professional leadership. In addition, this talk illustrates how empowering individuals with the skills and knowledge to navigate digital landscapes can drive meaningful change within public institutions. By bridging the gap between academia and practice, the Digital Agents Program aims to cultivate a new generation of leaders equipped to lead the digital transformation of the public sector (Talk in France, Slides in English).
